ABOUT THE PROJECT
Client: Planning and Land Use Services
Project type: Planning policy
The South Australian Government is fast tracking residential land releases and rezoning across Greater Adelaide to ensure appropriate supply across the region and address current housing pressure points and affordability.
As a first stage in the process, some 235 hectares of land was recently rezoned at Hackham creating capacity for at least 2,000 new homes.
Planning Futures was responsible for authoring a Code Amendment on behalf of the State Government to rezone this land at Hackham and Old Noarlunga, which was set aside for urban growth in Adelaide’s Outer South region.
Preparation of the Code Amendment required close consultation and engagement with the State’s Planning and Land Use Services unit, Renewal SA as a key land owner and third party consultants involved in delivering key investigations to support the Code Amendment. A major component of Planning Futures’ work was to bring together and synthesise numerous technical reports to craft robust policy directions.
The Code Amendment was also supported by infrastructure agreements to ensure the delivery of road and stormwater infrastructure based on new infrastructure arrangements under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
